The Sharpsteen Museum preserves the history of Calistoga and upper Napa Valley. It contains extensive dioramas, designed by Walt Disney animator Ben Sharpsteen, that depict Calistoga during its time as an elegant 1860s Hot Springs resort developed by Sam Brannan. Mr. Brannan was California’s first millionaire who was well known as a pioneer, promoter, publisher, and entrepreneur.
The museum has received awards for Ben Sharpsteen's design, and memorabilia of his work for Disney is on display. Currently, the museum is also featuring retrospective work of photojournalist Chick Harrity, and his award-winning fine arts' photographer wife, Yvonne Henry. Harrity covered the White House beat from the time of Eisenhower to G.W. Bush.
Eat your lunch before the trip or bring something to eat on the way. On our way home after the museum visit we will stop at Gott's Roadside, a venerable Napa Valley tradition. The village will treat you to a soft serve ice cream or cold non-alcoholic beverage.
Registration closes August 19.
Meet at the 9th St. parking lot in Benicia at 11:30 to carpool. We always need people to drive the carpools, so please indicate if you are willing when you sign up. If you need a ride to the 9th St. lot, please indicate that when you sign up.
