Cultural and Educational Activities – to Inspire You
Monthly Speaker Series
The Village has been hosting the Speaker Series ever since we began planning for the Village. We sponsor a broad range of speakers on topics of interest to older adults, topics such as downsizing and decluttering, maintaining a sense of humor, being wise about having our end-of-life paperwork in order, taking care of our health, financial planning, being smart about purchasing hearing aids, yoga and nutrition, end-of-life planning, and more. The Speaker Series meets on the third Thursday of each month from 10:30 am – 12:00 pm at the Benicia Public Library (Dona Benicia Room). This event is always free and open to the public, making it the perfect opportunity for interested potential members to attend and learn more about our village!
Movie Discussion Group
Do you enjoy watching and discssing movies and films? Join our movie discussion group! Each week, the group pics a new film to watch on popular streaming services such as Netflix or Prime Video. The group then meets on Zoom every Monday afternoon to discuss. It's an easy way to socialize without leaving your home!
Monthly Field Trip / Excursion
This has turned into one of the most popular of our Village activities. Once a month, a crew of members travel in carpools to go someplace to visit, to learn, to explore, and to appreciate a range of things! For example, we have been to the Oakland Museum, Chabot Planetarium, the Marine Mammal Center, the Railroad Museum (in Sacramento), Tao House, the San Francisco Symphony, Mt. Diablo, and the diRosa Museum of Contemporary Art. And that’s just for starters!
Our Own House Concerts
A couple of times a year, we host intimate house concerts at the home of one of our members whose living room can accommodate 40! Just recently, we sponsored “Paper Moon,” a musical duo, and Foeva Na Koaloha, a women’s ukulele ensemble that brought the house down!
Attendance at Local Performances & Fesitvals
We take advantage of local theatre and go as a group to enjoy both dramas and comedies. Join a group and head to a local festival or fair!
